Don't mess with a maul--this affordable log splitter does the work in a fraction
of the time. This log-splitting machine from Fisch features a 2-horsepower motor
that packs a whopping 4 tons of ram power. It can slice logs up to 20 inches
long and 12 inches in diameter, and unlike your back, it can go all day without
complaining. The wide-stance design provides plenty of stability, and its rugged
construction will stand up to a long life of hard work. Fisch built it big enough
to handle tough logs but small and lightweight enough for one person to easily
move. It will even fit in the trunk of most cars. Best of all, the affordable
price tag puts it within reach of most homeowners. Get your firewood chopped
early this year, without wrecking your back in the process.

Handyman Review:
Log Splitter for Suburban Lumberjacks - a review by The Family Handyman
I
had two options for the wood stacked next to the shed: maul or hydraulic splitter.
The maul and wedge routine is draining, and renting the gas-powered hydraulic
splitter is expensive. The splitter is also tough to haul around and sounds
like a Mack truck.
The solution? The new electric Fisch Log Splitter.
I split more than 100 logs in less than an hour, safely and (almost) effortlessly.
The requirement of two hands to operate the splitter - one on a safety button,
the other on the hydraulic lever - eliminates hand injuries common with splitters.
It's surprisingly quiet and the splitting carriage at shin level makes it easy
to load and unload logs. It will handle logs up to 20 in. long and 12 in. in
diameter and automatically retracts when you remove your hand from the lever.
The lightweight (under 100 lbs.) and affordable (about $450) splitter is equipped
with wheels and is the size of a vacuum cleaner. The 2-hp electric motor requires
a 20-amp circuit and hefty extension cord. This splitter is a dream for the suburban
lumberjack on a budget.
